Course Outline

Students will be encouraged to utilise a range different mediums (pencil, charcoal, pastel and ink ) and will be encouraged to experiment with new styles and approaches to build up confidence in composition and application - The outline below is flexible and subject to some minor changes depending on weather and participant experience

 

Week 1: Still Life 1 

This week we will focus on setting out composition with a focus on proportions, perspective, scale, and basic sketching using pencil and charcoal, students will choose to work from different still life compositions

Week 2: Still life 2 

This week we will look at how to create 3 dimensional drawings using tone and value. Applying a range of shading techniques in pastel and charcoal. 

 

Week 3: Mark Making

This week we will move on to experiment with mark making using pastels and explore a range of shading and blending techniques 

 

Week 4 & 5  Final Composition - Sketch to drawing

This week we will take inspiration from the outdoors (weather permitting) and use what we've learned to develop a large piece of work to be completed over the last two sessions. Some participants may choose to abstract their composition or certain elements of the drawing and broad use of colour and mark making techniques will be explored to produce a finished piece of work to a high standard
